Dolphins sign 6th round pick Isaiah Prince to rookie deal

The Dolphins have now officially signed all but one of their 2019 draft picks, as they have signed former Ohio State right tackle Isaiah Prince to his rookie deal.

Prince is regarded for his run blocking ability but his pass protection was spotty in college and he also has a reputation for causing penalties –something that Miami’s offensive line does not need to carry over from the previous regime.

As it stands, Prince will have to compete for the starting job with Zach Sterup, and recently signed veteran Jordan Mills, who started all 16 games at right tackle for the Buffalo Bills in each of the past three seasons.

“It’s going to be open.” Dolphins offensive line coach Pat Flaherty said on Thursday. “Zach Sterup has done a good job in the offseason program. He’s worked his tail off in the weight room and on the field. Now with Jordan Mills here and drafting Isaiah Prince, you would think that the two veteran guys have a little bit of a step ahead of the rookie but we’ll see how it goes. It’s hard to evaluate really where you are at the offensive line until you put pads on.”

Head coach Brian Flores has made it abundantly clear that every single starting job on the roster is up for grabs, not even Josh Rosen is going to be given the starting spot at quarterback, he’ll have to beat out veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick for it.

This means that if Prince can show rapid progress in rookie mini-camp, he can make a case for himself that he deserves to be regarded much higher than his 6th round selection would suggest.
