Dolphins should target newly released OG Alex Lewis

The Baltimore Ravens have released offensive guard Alex Lewis, according to Lewis’ Instagram profile on Monday morning. The Dolphins should be ringing Lewis’ phone off the hook this morning in an effort to get Lewis in town for a workout. Why? Lewis has only started 10 games over the course of the last two seasons — why would he possibly be a high priority target for Miami?

Two reasons. First and foremost, the Dolphins’ interior offensive line is anything but stable — and the Ravens subscribe to the same brand of football as we’re seeing Miami would like to implement. That being physical, hard-nosed football along the lines of scrimmage. If Lewis fit that mold for Baltimore enough for the Ravens to invest a 4th-round pick in Lewis back in 2016, it is a sensible conclusion that he can fit what Miami would ideally like to implement, too.

Second, the Dolphins opponent for Week 1 of the 2019 season? None other than the Baltimore Ravens. And no team in the NFL will carry more intrigue and mystery around their offense entering the season. With quarterback Lamar Jackson at the helm, the Ravens are reportedly pulling concepts from spread offenses all over college football in an effort to make Jackson as effective as possible.

Who could possibly have some inside information on the Ravens offense? Newly released offensive guard Alex Lewis would, for starters.

And so the ball is in Miami’s court — but they really ought to make a call and bring Lewis into the fray. Both for competition at guard and intel on the Ravens’ mysterious offense.
