Dolphins should consider signing LB Bobby Wagner

As the Miami Dolphins prepare for their roster construction phase of this offseason, they’ll have plenty of decisions to make, especially on the defensive side of the ball.

At this point, the Dolphins are expected to have Duke Riley, Elandon Roberts, Andrew Van Ginkel, Melvin Ingram and Sam Eguavoen hit the market. This would leave just Jerome Baker, Jaelan Phillips and Channing Tindall on the roster.

With the Los Angeles Rams set to release linebacker Bobby Wagner in the following days, general manager Chris Grier may have a new target that should pique his interest.

Wagner spent the first 10 seasons of his career with the Seattle Seahawks, making the Pro Bowl in nine of those years and being an All-Pro in six of them. After his release, he signed a five-year $50 million deal with the Rams last offseason.

Unfortunately for him, Los Angeles fell off of a cliff following their Super Bowl victory, finishing the 2022 season with just a 5-12 record. Wagner ended his age-32 season with 140 tackles and a career-high six sacks.

While Wagner spent most of his career in a 4-3 base scheme, Miami, under Vic Fangio, will likely employ a 3-4 defense. Wagner got that experience in Los Angeles last year, making a potential transition to South Florida much easier.

Despite turning 33 this June, the former Utah State Aggie still appears to have plenty to give to a team looking to win a Super Bowl.
