Dolphins set to add linebacker depth in Nate Orchard

The Dolphins are poised to add some veteran depth in the form of linebacker Nate Orchard in an effort to boost their pass rush, according to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.

Orchard was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft. Since entering the league, the former Utah product has only recorded five sacks, three of which came during his rookie year.

The 6’4″, 260 pound linebacker/pass rusher has bounced around the league since being released by the Browns in September of the 2018 season. He spent time last season with both the Buffalo Bills and Seattle Seahawks.

Orchard came into the league with plenty of potential but failed to gain traction and develop into a viable pass rusher, despite his draft status. He comes into a good situation with the Dolphins, as the team looks to run a versatile defense with many fronts.

Head coach Brian Flores has mentioned his stance on second chances and player development in the past — this can serve as a second chance for the fifth-year veteran.
