Dolphins safety Reshad Jones has shoulder surgery

Early during the 2018 season, Dolphins safety Reshad Jones injured his shoulder against the Jets. After playing most of the season with the injury, Jones recently had surgery to correct the issue.

On Friday, Jones posted a picture on Instagram showing he had surgery on his right shoulder.

“Surgery was a success and I give God the glory,” Jones said in the post. “Trailblazers are built different! I Preciate all the prayers #Godonmyside”

During the Dolphins’ 20-12 victory over the Jets in Week 2, Jones partially tore his right labrum. While Jones missed the next two weeks against the Raiders and Patriots due to the injury, he decided against getting surgery on his shoulder until after the season.

For obvious reasons, Jones’ performance suffered but he still was able to record 72 tackles, three interceptions, and nine passes defended. Now that the Dolphins have a new head coach in Brian Flores and general manager Chris Grier in charge of all football operations, the team will have a decision to make regarding Jones’ future.

Although Jones is still regarded as one of the better safeties in the league, the 30-year-old has three years remaining on a four-year, $48 million extension. His guaranteed 2019 base salary pretty much ensures he won’t be released, but the Dolphins could try to trade Jones since the team is headed for a rebuild.
