Dolphins safety Michael Thomas playing despite serious knee injury

DAVIE, Fla. _ Miami Dolphins safety Michael Thomas recently revealed that he's been playing with a partially torn posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.

The knee has been placed in a brace to alleviate some of the discomfort, but the injury likely won't prevent him from playing in Sunday's road game against the Buffalo Bills.

Thomas, one of four team captains, has been held out of practice for all but one session a week the past month, and it seems as if he'll stick to that formula to continue playing in the final three games.

Last week Thomas, who plays on every core special teams unit, recovered an onside kick to seal Monday night's 27-20 upset of the New England Patriots in Miami.

In that game he tied his season-high with six tackles, bringing his total to 16 on the season.

Thomas, who is playing on a one-year tender worth $1.8 million, will likely become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. It is possible that delaying a surgical procedure to repair the knee could negative impact his market.
