Dolphins rookies host Special Olympics for flag football event

The Miami Dolphins’ rookie class of 2019 has had a pretty crazy month. The 2019 NFL Draft transpired nearly a full month ago and in the time since, these Dolphins rookies have had to pack up their things, move to South Florida, get introduced to their new coaches and teammates, learn the playbook, acclimate to the Florida heat — you get the point. But yesterday was a great chance for the young Dolphins to slow down, catch their breath and have some fun.

The Dolphins rookies hosted the Special Olympics yesterday afternoon for a flag football event, giving them a chance to get involved with Miami’s strong efforts in the South Florida community this summer.

1st-round pick Christian Wilkins can rest easy knowing that in 15 years when he’s wrapped up his pro career in Miami, he’ll have an immediate gig as a hype man waiting for him.

But in all seriousness, seeing the Dolphins rookies hang loose with the Special Olympics serves as a great break from the grind — and they seemed to cherish it. That’s equally important for the culture the Dolphins are building — this team is involved with their community constantly, so having players that enjoying giving back makes for a perfect fit.
