Dolphins rivals in New York making waves with pending signings

Many Dolphins fans are having a hard time adjusting to the “new” Miami: a team that is going to be strict with their valuations of players, not overspend on the free agent market and hunt for compensatory picks as frequently as possible.

Making life harder for those same fans? Watching the New York Jets open up the check book. The Dolphins have handled their business against the Jets in recent years, winning the last 3 match-ups with New York, but that task looks much, much taller. The Jets, you see, have gone went all-in.

There are going to be multiple signings in New York tomorrow, barring any crazy changes. They feature more than one household name. Through the first 18 hours of the “legal tampering window”, the Jets have agreed to terms with the following players:

  • Wide receiver Jamison Crowder (3-years, $28.5M)
  • Outside linebacker Anthony Barr (To be determined)
  • Middle linebacker C.J. Mosley (5-years, $85M)

Oh. Plus New York traded for offensive guard Kelechi Osemele from Oakland. And the Jets still have the 3rd pick in this year’s NFL Draft.

That’s the bad news. Former Dolphins coach Adam Gase will be given every opportunity to thrive in New York, but can he take advantage of it? And can the Jets as a team sustain any success with their foundation?

Time will tell, but in the meantime Dolphins fans should be braced for the bravado they’ll hear from New York all summer.
