Dolphins reportedly interested in punter Marquette King

Business continues to pick up for the Miami Dolphins. With teams having segued away from signing high profile free agents and focusing predominantly on the 2019 NFL Draft, the Dolphins are scouring what’s left to find fits for the new look roster.

The latest potential candidate, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, is free agent punter Marquette King. King, a seven-year veteran of the league, spent his first six seasons in Oakland before punting in four games last year in Denver.

King, who is known for celebrating his punts with dabs and dances and his huge personality, reportedly didn’t mesh well with Raiders head coach Jon Gruden. That proved to be the catalyst of his termination from the team last spring. But a familiar face would await in Miami: executive Reggie McKenzie. And in the spirit of the vast majority of moves Miami has made thus far this off-season, having worked with someone in the hierarchy is a first class ticket to a contract.

King led the league in yards per punt (48.9) in 2013 and averages 46.7 yards per punt over his seven years in the league.
