Dolphins reportedly hire new coaching assistant

The Miami Dolphins have played some of their coaching changes close to the vest this offseason — despite the fact that there have been reports regarding some of the changes being made to the team’s coaching staff over the course of the last two months. The team has yet to acknowledge the reported changes at offensive coordinator, with reports out that the team has promoted both George Godsey and Eric Studesville to serve as co-offensive coordinators and has also opted not to clarify which assistant is stepping into the defensive line coach position, which has been vacated by Marion Hobby.

And now there is another reported change to Miami’s staff. ESPN’s Field Yates is reporting that the Dolphins are adding a former player to the fray in Steve Gregory as a coaching assistant.

Gregory’s most famous play in the NFL? He was the guy who scooped up Mark Sanchez’s “Butt Fumble” while Gregory was playing for the New England Patriots back in 2012. Given Miami’s affinity (and ability) to create turnovers in 2020, Gregory seems like a great fit!

His formal role is yet to be announced and, given how Miami has handled their other coaching changes, we may need to wait until training camp to get a more clear picture of what Gregory’s formal role will be with the Dolphins. But for now, he’s a reported addition as a coaching assistant.
