Dolphins receiver Allen Hurns hospitalized after suffering concussion on collision with Cowboys safety

ARLINGTON, Texas _ Miami Dolphins receiver Allen Hurns left Sunday's 31-6 loss to Dallas Cowboys after suffering a concussion during a violent collision during the first quarter.

Hurns, who collided with Cowboys safety Jeff Heath when both tried to catch a pass over the deep middle thrown by Dolphins quarterback Josh Rosen, was taken to a local hospital, where he'll remain with a member of the Dolphins medical staff until cleared to travel.

The hit, which forced Hurns to drop the reception, was helmet-to-helmet contact, but no flag was thrown even though the NFL has a "defenseless receiver" rule that allows offensive players to bring in passes without being decleated.

"That was one of the lower points in my career," Rosen said referring to the throw. "I feel really bad about that."

Hurns laid on the turf, seemingly unconscious for a few minutes before getting up with some assistance. He walked off the field with help from trainers.

Hurns, a six-year veteran who played for the Cowboys last season, will enter the NFL's concussion protocol program, which means he must pass a league-mandated three-stage test to return to practice and games.

With Hurns sidelined the Dolphins were forced to finish Sunday's game with DeVante Parker, Preston Williams and Jakeem Grant as their only healthy receivers since Albert Wilson was inactive for the second straight game because of his hip and calf injury.
