Dolphins RB Mark Walton looking to get felony weapons charge dropped

They say you can’t win in the NFL with just choir boys and Boy Scouts on the roster — and given Brian Flores’ stance regarding the kind of men he wants in his locker room, even he agrees. That’s the assumption that was to be made when the Miami Dolphins signed running back Mark Walton this offseason, a move that was made despite Walton facing criminal charges from a series of three arrests.

Now, with training camp set to begin this week, Walton is looking to have his name cleared of the most significant charge, a felony weapons count.

The Miami Herald lays out the full argument from Walton’s attorney, who is hoping to have the presiding judge dismiss the charge because of “egregious police misconduct.”

If Walton is successful in clearing his name of the weapons charge, the Dolphins will be poised to reap the benefits of gambling on a young man who has clearly made some mistakes — and by all accounts wants to make things right. A return to South Florida (Walton attended the University of Miami) may be exactly what he needs to get on the right path.
