Dolphins rank last in NFL.com’s preseason power rankings

Here we go again. As can be expected anytime a set of power rankings is released these days, the Miami Dolphins are most easily found by scrolling all the way to the bottom of the page. NFL.com’s Dan Hanzus unleashed a fresh set of power rankings for the NFL at the midway point of the preseason schedule and the criticisms of the Dolphins organization continue.

Miami checked in dead last in the rankings, trailing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (29th), Cincinnati Bengals (30th) and Arizona Cardinals (31st). And Hanzus, like many others in the media, seems to be having a difficult time wrapping his head around the Dolphins’ continued flirtation with making Ryan Fitzpatrick the starting quarterback.

“…Is there a reason for Ryan Fitzpatrick to be on this particular Dolphins team? It made sense when Fitzpatrick signed back in March; at that point, the Miami depth chart consisted of Jake Rudock and Luke Falk, two men with five NFL pass attempts between them. But the arrival of Josh Rosen changed things. With Miami deep in a rebuild, it makes sense to see as much as possible from Rosen, who was deemed worthy of the 10th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, before having to make a huge decision at quarterback come next April…Real talk: Fitz makes more sense as trade bait than as the Dolphins’ starting quarterback.” – Dan Hanzus, NFL.com

Would the Dolphins ever consider trading Fitzpatrick? It’s unlikely. He’s too valuable to a team trying to win with youth thanks to his experience — and also for the mentorship he brings Josh Rosen.

But one that that is likely? The continued placement of the Dolphins at the bottom of the barrel. At least until the team straps on the pads and snags a few surprise wins in the first half of the season.
