When your quarterback competition becomes a meme, odds are it’s going to be funny. That’s exactly what we’re dealing with after a new picture of the Miami Dolphins’ two competitors for the starting quarterback position hit the internet. Ryan Fitzpatrick poses on the left, an “NFL 100” golden ball coiled into his right arm. And standing next to him is Josh Rosen, looking uninspired by the photoshoot.
There’s a whole lot to unpack here. The internet has picked up on the photo and the jokes have begun to roll in. There’s a spinoff movie pitch:
Credit here is well deserved for tying in the “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective” reference in as well. But the biggest inspiration for the jokes has been Rosen’s stoic demeanor in the photo.
Some Dolphins fans chose to tease the contrast between the two Dolphins quarterbacks, admittedly with great success.
The odd-couple pairing for Miami may not inspire here, but if they can inspire any hope on the field, the 2019 season may not be as frustrating as many predict. But ultimately, the start of the 2019 NFL season is eight and a half weeks away, meaning there’s plenty of time to meme photographs.
And plenty of time for the Dolphins to continue to let the pessimism about their 2019 season build up as fuel for the fire when it comes time for kickoff.
