The Miami Dolphins have apparently lost Pro Bowl center Mike Pouncey for a couple of weeks because of a new hip injury he suffered in last Friday's 41-14 preseason loss to the Dallas Cowboys.
Pouncey, a Dolphins' starter since 2011, has a long history of hip issues. He missed the first four games of the 2014 season because of a procedure done to his right hip.
Pouncey had his right hip cleaned up this offseason. This time the injury happened to his left hip.
Head coach Adam Gase said Pouncey will not play in the final two preseason games, and added that his status for the Sept. 11 season-opener against the Seattle Seahawks is uncertain.
"We are going to be week to week right now. We're still feeling this thing out," Gase said of Pouncey, who has started all 72 of the games he's played for the Dolphins.
"We are taking our time to make sure we have the right evaluation and can make a smart decision."
Anthony Steen replaced Pouncey as the first-team center, working on an offensive line that featured Laremy Tunsil, the first-round pick, as the new starting left guard for the entire practice.
Jamil Douglas, who started games at center in Pouncey's place last season, was used as the second-team center.
Gase said Steen, a former Alabama starter, has earned the call-up based on his practices and preseason performances.
