Dolphins playing musical chairs at some positions early on at camp

The early returns from Davie indicate that new Dolphins head coach Brian Flores is indeed a man of his word. All spring and summer, Flores has spoken about how the Dolphins are going to be a team that is filled with competition — every job on the field is going to be predicated on performance and the best players will play. And through the first two days of training camp, Flores is staying true to his word and not providing any preferential treatment to his players.

The rotation at quarterback is obviously coming and of course will continue in the coming weeks. But the Dolphins are mixing and matching combinations at other positions, too.

Defensive end is a key position for the Dolphins, considering how shallow the roster currently is. The Dolphins featured Jonathan Woodard and Charles Harris with the first team defense on Thursday, but yesterday featured Nate Orchard and Tank Carradine running with the starters instead.

Receiver Brice Butler was rotated into a more prominent role on Friday with wide receiver Albert Wilson taking the day off on a scheduled off day in his continued recovery from a hip injury in 2018. And by all accounts, Butler did well for himself, making numerous big plays and logging several touchdowns on the day.

The depth behind Wilson will be critical to note — as Wilson has only played 16 games once in his five year NFL career. With that said, Wilson should be back in pads today and practicing.
