Dolphins place 3 veterans on physically unable to perform list

The posturing for the start of 2019 training camp continues for the Miami Dolphins — they’ve placed three veteran players on the active physically unable to perform (PUP) list ahead of this week’s kickoff to training camp. The three veterans added to the active PUP list are:

  • Tight End Dwayne Allen
  • Cornerback Cordrea Tankersley
  • Linebacker Mike Hull

Each of these three veterans can be removed from the PUP at any point and are allowed to workout with the team — but they are not allowed to participate in team drills. This kind of designation from the Dolphins is commonplace in the NFL and often serves as an added buffer for players who are still recovering from prior injuries.

For the Dolphins’ trio, Tankersley is the most likely to get transitioned to the “reserve” PUP, which will force him to sit out the first 6 games of the Dolphins season. Tankersley, who tore his ACL mid-season last year — is likely to need several months of continued rehab.

The addition of Allen to the list is somewhat surprising, but Allen was battling an injury towards the end of organized team activities (OTAs) early last month — here’s hoping there’s no lingering long-term issues there.

For Hull, he’ll need to avoid any further injury if he wants any significant playing time in 2019. Hull injured his MCL last summer and missed half the season — by the time he returned the Dolphins had seen Raekwon McMillan and Jerome Baker solidify themselves as long-term starters for the Dolphins.
