The Dolphins have spent much of the first two months of the season enduring losses to their roster on account of injury. Preston Williams, Xavien Howard, Danny Isidora — the losses have hit both sides of the football for the Dolphins. Don’t look now, but the pendulum has started two swing the other way and the Dolphins are actually getting an influx of talent back to the roster.
Whether that comes from the improving health of safety Reshad Jones or the activation of LB Andrew Van Ginkel and now OT Julien Davenport off the injured reserve, Miami’s roster has picked up some notable firepower for the team’s final run in 2019.
The Dolphins made the activation of Davenport official yesterday, activating him to the active roster and cutting offensive lineman Andrew Donnal to make room on the roster.
Davenport was one of the players involved in the Laremy Tunsil trade — and was supposed to serve as the Dolphins starting left tackle in Tunsil’s place. That lasted all of one game before injury struck, but now Davenport is positioning to work himself back into the lineup and try to convince the Dolphins that he can be a part of the long-term plan on an overhauled offensive line. Davenport, who is 24-years old, is a young, toolsy blocker. The improvement of other talents on Miami’s roster this season indicates that Davenport has legitimate hope for development and growth.
If that materializes, it will be because Davenport gets back on the field before the end of 2019 and shows improvement from start to finish. But at least now he’s going to get the chance now that he’s a part of the active roster.
