The Miami Dolphins, like most of the league, are preparing for the offseason after failing to reach the postseason.
With the 2022 NFL draft just a few months away, teams are preparing for the event to fill their roster with young players who can hopefully help the team succeed in the near future.
Each year, teams receive compensatory picks based on their activity in the prior offseason. Typically, if a team lost a lot more than they gained in free agency, that team will receive an extra pick. The equation can be a little complicated, so Over the Cap can be a helpful tool to use to better understand.
According to Over the Cap’s formula, the Dolphins are not currently expected to receive a compensatory pick for any of the players they lost in 2021. This means that Miami will only have their original allotment of picks and any that they may have traded for.
The Dolphins still could earn a compensatory third-round pick both this year and next year if senior personnel executive Reggie McKenzie, or another minority executive or coach, is hired away.
