Dolphins make switch on 2019 practice squad

The Miami Dolphins’ practice squad is designed to serve as a reservoir of talent that the team covets for down the road. The likelihood of a practice squad player reaching full-fledged NFL starter status is pretty slim, but there have been some notable contributors to elevate themselves from practice squad status over the years.

Miami, as they’re doing with the main roster, continues to churn players over in hopes of finding a few lottery tickets worth cashing in. The latest move?

The Dolphins released former Arizona State linebacker Christian Sam — a promising rookie out of Arizona State who spent time with the Patriots before arriving in Miami. In his place, the Dolphins have signed former Duke Blue Devils WR T.J. Rahming.

If you’ll remember, Rahming was the one who got the call midway through the preseason, offering some promise thanks to his short area quickness.

Rahming first became available when he was cut from Washington midway through August — and he seems to have made a positive impression with the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent.

Although Rahming isn’t eligible for playing time on the practice squad, the Dolphins will have ample opportunity to work with him hands on in hopes of pulling potential out of the speedster.
