Dolphins linebacker Mike Hull placed on reserve PUP list

The tough breaks continue for Miami Dolphins linebacker Mike Hull. Hull, who missed the first half of the 2018 NFL season with a knee injury, entered training camp on Miami’s active physically unable to perform (PUP) list. Yesterday the Dolphins transitioned him to the reserve PUP list — ending his 2019 NFL season before it even began.

Hull appeared to be a good bet to make the Dolphins’ 53-man roster after the team extended Hull on a one-year deal earlier this spring, which would have been Hull’s fifth active season in the pros.

Typically, players placed on the reserve PUP are eligible to return to active duty after the first six weeks of the season, but since the Dolphins placed this designation on Hull before the team cut down the roster to 53 players, he’s now forced to watch the entire 2019 season from the sideline.

And since Miami is seeing increased competition at the linebacker position with the emergence of Sam Eguavoen on the roster behind the trio of Jerome Baker, Raekwon McMillan and Kiko Alonso, it’s feasible that Hull has played his last game for the Miami Dolphins — he’ll be an unrestricted free agent again next offseason.
