Dolphins’ Kenny Stills listed as one most underrated receivers in NFL

The Miami Dolphins’ passing offense hasn’t been known for its potency over the last few years. Between poor pass protection and conservative quarterback play, the Dolphins’ passing offense has sputtered under the watch of former coach Adam Gase and the arms of Brock Osweiler, Jay Cutler and Ryan Tannehill.

But that doesn’t mean there aren’t components of the Dolphins’ passing offense that aren’t notable assets as the team moves forward in 2019 and beyond. One such asset? Wide receiver Kenny Stills — who was listed as one of the five most underrated wide receivers in the NFL by Brad Kelly of The Draft Network.

Here is what Kelly had to say about Stills.

“Since entering the league as a fresh 21-year old in 2013, Kenny Stills is 26th in the NFL in total receiving yards. Stills has been a primary deep threat for the majority of his career, stretching defenses with speed and consistent finishes down the field. Over the past three seasons in Miami, despite sub-par quarterback play, Stills has turned over 8% of his targets into touchdowns. Stills is a big play machine but has developed the rest of his game over the course of his career, which has mostly gone unnoticed. That is the direct cause for him landing on the underrated list.” – Brad Kelly, The Draft Network

The raw numbers have not been kind to Stills during Miami’s lull in offense — but the lack of productivity through the air has helped Stills develop his all around game. He’s a much more effective blocker on the second level these days than he was in the dawn of his career. He’s become more than just a vertical threat, too.

And this isn’t the first time Stills has gotten praise this summer, either. Andy Benoit of Sports Illustrated referred to Stills as one of football’s most complete wide receivers just a few weeks ago.

With a little luck, Miami’s passing offense finds a pulse and we can see just how good Stills — and Albert Wilson, DeVante Parker and others — can be in 2019.
