Dolphins' Jarvis Landry, Kenyan Drake fined for roles in fracas

DAVIE, Fla. _ Miami Dolphins wide receiver Jarvis Landry was fined more than $48,000 and running back Kenyan Drake was fined more than $12,000 for their roles in a late-game fight and their ensuing ejections during the Dolphins' 24-16 loss to Buffalo in the season finale. Neither player was dealt a suspension, however.

Landry was fined $48,260 for his role in the melee that broke out in the fourth quarter of the game. The amount, according to reports, was because Landry is a repeat offender. Drake was fined $12,154.

Landry scored on a 1-yard play but felt he was restrained too long and too harshly by Buffalo players. Landry went after Bills safety Jordan Poyer, and Drake, taking up for his teammate, ended up flinging the helmet of Bills defensive end Ryan Davis about 20 yards downfield after the multi-player scrum was broken apart.

Landry was flagged for unnecessary roughness and disrespecting an official.

Landry just completed the final year of his contract and it's unclear whether he will return to the Dolphins next season. He'll likely be the No. 1 priority among Miami's free agents.

"Jarvis is one of many players that we'll be talking about over the next couple of weeks," general manager Chris Grier said.

However, Landry's constant hot-headed outbursts might have Miami re-thinking how hard it pursues the 2017 NFL's receptions leader.

"We'll see what happens with Jarvis and a few other noteworthy free agents," said Mike Tannenbaum, executive vice president of football operations.

"In a perfect world, we keep them all. There's a salary cap, so we'll make those decisions at the appropriate time within the context of what's best for the organization."

Coach Adam Gase expressed disappointment with Landry's behavior.

"Last game, that was about as embarrassing as I've seen in a long time," he said. "It's just something that we can't have happen....That was very, very frustrating to watch and standing there, not being able to do anything. We need way better control from our best players in the heat of the moment."

Landry said he was defending himself while Drake said he was defending a teammate.
