Dolphins host slew of local prospects for 2019 draft at local pro day

Each year, pro teams are allotted 30 prospect visits to their facilities during the pre-draft process. The thought process here is simple: minimize the logistics for young players when there are 32 potential destinations and put emphasis on the pre-draft events…such as the NFL Combine and the Senior Bowl.

Inevitably, teams will need and want more time to get to know the players, hence the allotted visits. But there is, as with most things in the NFL, a loophole. Each team is allowed to host local prospects on an assigned “local pro day”, an event that takes place at the team facility and doesn’t have a limitation, provided you fit all your players into a single day.

The Dolphins’ local pro day was yesterday and in addition to bringing in a notable group of former Hurricanes, the team also managed to rope in local products who played their high school ball in South Florida.

That includes a handful of fairly notable prospects, such as Georgia cornerback Deandre Baker – a potential 1st-round selection – and West Virginia tackle Yodny Cajuste.

The collection of talent available at such an event brings exciting combinations of results for the Dolphins’ upcoming draft, provided the team liked what they saw from this collective group.
