Dolphins host cornerback Teez Tabor for workout on Tuesday

Miami’s front office is apparently looking to leave no stone unturned, even after the start of the 2019 NFL season. The Dolphins welcomed former 2nd-round pick Teez Tabor to the team facility on Tuesday for a workout, a move that should hardly come as a surprise to anyone watching the Dolphins’ tendencies this offseason.

Miami has continued to prioritize players drafted in the top-100 picks of former NFL Drafts, only to flame out in their first (or second) destination. Tabor is a continuation of that philosophy, as he was drafted with the 53rd overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions.

Another obvious connection for Miami’s interest in Tabor? His background in Lions coach Matt Patricia’s defensive system. Patricia, like Miami head coach Brian Flores, is a Bill Belichick disciple — there are certainly overlaps in their defensive philosophy that could help quicken Tabor’s on-boarding process, should Miami decide they have interest.

But the Dolphins have not announced a roster move as of this morning, seemingly willing to stand pat with what they have in the secondary. Miami’s most disappointing performance on Sunday against the Ravens was the pass defense — but no street free agent is going to help boost the performance there. That will come down to a long look in the mirror for Miami’s coaching staff and personnel already in house.
