Dolphins have private visit with Missouri QB Drew Lock

Never let it be said that the Miami Dolphins front office doesn’t do their due diligence. Despite countless reports that Miami is aiming to take a quarterback in the 2020 draft, the Dolphins are carefully scouting this year’s top QB prospects as well, as they met with Missouri’s Drew Lock for a private dinner on March 20, per the Kansas City Star’s Alex Schiffer.

Lock, 22, has already met with the Denver Broncos, and is set to also meet with the New York Giants. He is currently projected as being the second or third best QB in the 2019 draft, behind Oklahoma’s Kyler Murray and Ohio State’s Dwayne Haskins.

Lock is known for making incredible throws, but with the caveat that he pairs those amazing throws with a lot of frustrating decisions that hurt his team more than helped it. What he does have, however, is a very strong arm and a willingness to use it.

During his four-year tenure at Missouri, he threw for 12,193 yards, 99 touchdowns and 39 interceptions. The greatest concern, however, is Lock’s paltry 56.9 completion percentage, indicating his accuracy is a potential problem, in a similar vein to Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen, who also struggled with accuracy his entire college career, and in his rookie season in the NFL, only completed 52.8 percent of his passes.

Considering where head coach Brian Flores comes from, accuracy will likely be crucial in the offense he intends to run in Miami. This makes Lock an odd choice to consider, but it is good to see the Dolphins are not just resting on their laurels and waiting for 2020.
