The vessel may have been flying a Norwegian flag at the time of the incident.

It is an offence to deliberately or recklessly disturb any dolphin, porpoise or whale.

PC MacDonald from Burnett Road Police Station in Inverness said: “We are keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed this while watching the dolphins.

"Anyone that could identify or further describe the vessel in question should speak to us also.

"I’d kindly ask anyone with private CCTV which looks over the firth to check it for footage of this vessel."

Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland on 101 or anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, quoting CR/0262252/26.
