Hall of Famer Jason Taylor adds crime-fighting to his resume

Is there anything Jason Taylor can’t do? Seriously. Taylor, an undersized pass rusher out of Akron in the late 1990s, when on to defy the odds and become one of the most potent, versatile pass rushers of his generation with the Miami Dolphins — eventually becoming a first-ballot Hall of Famer in Canton.

These days, Taylor spends his time working in the media and coaching football in South Florida for St. Thomas Aquinas High School. And apparently also by fighting crime.

Taylor was one of several St. Thomas football coaches to spring into action on Thursday evening and help stop a burglary in progress on the school’s athletic fields.

Kendrick Freeman, 27, allegedly jumped a fence and walked into the school before grabbing a purse and making a break for it. But Freeman’s escape route took him through the football fields, where Taylor and fellow former Miami Dolphin and St. Thomas assistant coach Twan Russell made their most important stuff in years, holding Freeman until authorities arrived on the scene.

Freeman is currently being held in the Broward County Jail — while Taylor, Russell and the rest of the St. Thomas Aquinas football team enjoyed a 35-0 blowout win against Plantation during homecoming last night.
