Dolphins G Josh Sitton expects to be released

The Arizona Cardinals Cardinals have been extremely busy signing players released by other teams prior to free agency. They have added four players since the end of the season who were let go by their previous team — linebacker Tanner Vallejo via waivers and then signing cornerback Robert Alford, outside linebacker Brooks Reed and tight end Charles Clay outright after their releases.

Another player they could target expects to be released and could fill a key need on the offensive line.

Miami Dolphins left guard Josh Sitton expects to be released by the team, according to the Miami Herald’s Armando Salguero.

Sitton played in only one game last season before tearing his rotator cuff and landing on injured reserve. The 32-year-old guard has one year remaining on the two-year, $13.5 million deal he signed last offseason. He is due to make $7 million in 2019 between his salary, roster bonus and workout bonus.

Sitton is a four-time Pro Bowler.

The Cardinals need a new left guard as Mike Iupati’s contract voided after the season and they needed an upgrade anyway.

Sitton would be an upgrade, although his recent injury might be a concern. He has not played in a full 16 games since 2015, missing at least three games each of the last three seasons.

He would match the type of player general manager Steve Keim would try to sign to fill the gap at the position. Sitton is well-established in the league, is older, has been a very good player but could be had for somewhat of a bargain because of age and durability questions.

Once the Dolphins make the move, he should be a name to pay attention to, as the Cardinals have been active in signing other players in similar situations.
