Dolphins free agent profile: Miami should bring Kendall Lamm back

The Miami Dolphins have 29 payers set to hit free agency in March, including an offensive lineman who filled in well at multiple spots in 2023 – Kendall Lamm.

Lamm, 31, was originally signed by the Houston Texans as an undrafted free agent out of Appalachian State in 2015. He spent four seasons with the Texans, two with the Cleveland Browns, one with the Tennessee Titans and offseason with the Detroit Lions before signing with the Dolphins practice squad in late 2022.

He was eventually called up to the active roster and asked to start in the team’s Week 17 battle with the New England Patriots, a game that Miami lost 23-21.

Lamm re-signed with the Dolphins last offseason on a one-year deal worth $1.32 million. Due to injuries to both Terron Armstead and Austin Jackson, Lamm ended up playing 55.8% of the team’s offensive snaps in 2023, his highest percentage since 2018, when he was starting at right tackle for the Texans.

According to Pro Football Focus, Lamm was a starting-caliber offensive tackle in 2023, posting a 64.3 overall grade. He was also the 41st-best tackle in pass protection (67.1) which was better than Austin Jackson, who was No. 53 (62.3).

It’s unlikely that Lamm will receive a massive payday when he hits the market in a few weeks, so Miami should strongly consider bringing him back as a depth option.

Jackson and Armstead haven’t exactly been the healthiest players during their tenure with the Dolphins, so there’s a high probability that Miami have to start a backup at some point. Having someone who knows the system and has done well in it would be a smart move, especially considering he’ll likely cost less than $5 million annually.
