'Dolphins first': star centre opens up on Roosters link

Herbie Farnworth has given the strongest indication that he intends to re-sign with the Dolphins as he opened up about links to the Sydney Roosters.

The 26-year-old England international, one of the best centres in the world, insists the third-placed Dolphins have a team that can challenge for the title and a suite of stars he wants to play with long-term.

Farnworth is a free agent from November 1, but his first port of call on a new deal will be with the Redcliffe-based club.

There have been reports the Roosters are poised to strike and make a compelling offer to Farnworth.

"I am just focused on winning a competition here," Farnworth said.

"I am signed here for this year and next year. I have not had any thoughts on leaving. I'm happy.

"(The Roosters link) is just media talk. We haven't spoken to anyone and I certainly haven't heard anything.

"We have got a really good run this year and I don't want anything like that to get in the way. I'm sure when (contract talks) do roll around I will be speaking to the Dolphins first."

Farnworth is relishing his partnership with in-form winger Selwyn Cobbo and centre Jack Bostock, while shining in a backline directed by star half Isaiya Katoa. Continuing that relationship long-term is on his bucket list.

"Definitely. We have a lot of really good young players who are only going to get better and better, Cobbo being one of them," he said.

"Obviously he's a big physical guy. I love carrying after him because it is normally against scattered defenders.

"Bostock has come on leaps and bounds. He's slotted into centre and done a great job for us. Young Izzy is showing the class he has. We have some great players in our team and it would be great to stay."

The Dolphins are on a seven-game winning streak after beating Wests Tigers in Campbelltown, but Farnworth said they were not satisfied with that ahead of the blockbuster home clash with the second-placed Warriors on Saturday.

They get co-captain Katoa back from a minor knee injury and four Queensland stars - Max Plath, Selwyn Cobbo, Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow and Thomas Flegler.

"They are a quality side the Warriors. It should be a very tight game at Suncorp," Farnworth said.

"Obviously we are very happy with the way we are playing recently, but there's a lot of stuff to work on still.

"We are never fully satisfied with our game, especially on the weekend. We will come out a very different side with the Origin boys back."
