Dolphins first-round draft pick DeVante Parker has foot surgery

June 05--Miami Dolphins first-round draft pick wide receiver DeVante Parker out of Louisville had surgery Friday on his left foot, though he's expected to be ready for the start of the regular season.

At Louisville, Parker missed seven games his senior season after undergoing surgery on the same foot last year. The procedure Friday was required to replace a screw in the foot.

Despite the loss of playing time, Parker caught 43 passes for 855 yards and five touchdowns in his senior season, giving him a tie for the most touchdowns in Louisville football history (33) with Ibn Green.

The 6-foot-3 wideout had been a standout in OTAs as part of the Dolphins' revamped receiving corps, which also included Jarvis Landry, who led the Dolphins with 84 catches as a rookie last season; third-year pro Kenny Stills, acquired from the New Orleans Saints; and veteran Greg Jennings, who signed with Miami as a free agent.

They also picked up tight end Jordan Cameron, who is one season removed from a breakout season of 917 yards receiving and seven touchdowns with the Cleveland Browns. However, Cameron was forced to sit out multiple games last season because of concussions.

Coupled with Ryan Tannehill, the first quarterback from the 2012 draft class to receive a contract extension, Miami figured to be one of the more exciting offenses to watch this season and the most to gain from the suspension of New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady for four games for his involvement in the Deflategate scandal.

"I don't know that you could script a better formula for a guy to be successful," Dolphins offensive coordinator Bill Lazor said last week.
