Dolphins finalize 4-year extension with WR Jakeem Grant

The Miami Herald’s Dolphins beat reporter Adam Beasley was the first to break the news last night — that the team was taking the next step towards solidifying a young foundation for the future. The Dolphins are doing so by locking up wide receiver Jakeem Grant for four more seasons. Beasley’s initial report was quickly followed by a confirmation by NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport, who reported the deal between the two parties was officially done.

Grant, the Dolphins’ 2016 6th-round draft selection, is the second player from his class to sign a second contract with the Dolphins — following in the footsteps of CB Xavien Howard, who inked a 5-year, $75.25 million extension in May. As Beasley initially noted, the extension would keep the speedy Grant in Miami through the 2023 season.

This news shows how highly the new coaching regime thinks of Jakeem, as well as how much he has progressed as a football player through his three seasons. In 2018, Grant was a big play waiting to happen every single time he touched the football until a calf/Achilles injury sidelined him for the final six contests.

Grant hasn’t been an active participant in much of preseason as he bounces back from multiple injuries, but it has been reported he has practiced this week.

Check back for more as financial details about this extension become public.
