Dolphins fall short of ESPY award for ‘Best Play’ of the year

Dolphins fans have seen the “Miami Miracle” countless times by now. It will go down in team history as one of the greatest plays of all time — right next to the “Hook and Lateral” and Marino’s fake spike to beat the Jets. One place the “Miami Miracle” will not be recognized as an all-timer? ESPN’s ESPY awards. The Dolphins fell short last night in their bid to bring home the ESPY for “Best Play.”

Dolphins RB Kenyan Drake was on hand and in attendance in the event that the miraculous finish did in fact bring home the hardware (fun fact: Rob Gronkowski was in attendance too — but no word on if he’d have been recognized for his contributions to the play!) but it was not meant to be.

The winning play? UCLA gymnast Katelyn Ohashi’s perfect 10 floor routine from this past January. Her performance bested the Miami Miracle, Kawhi Leonard’s Game 7 off-balance buzzer-beater to eliminate the Philadelphia 76ers in the Eastern Conference semifinals and Titans RB Derrick Henry’s 99-yard touchdown rumble vs. the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Dolphins fans, you’ve seen the Miami Miracle, but have you seen the play that bested it at the 2019 ESPYs? You can watch it below:
