The Miami Dolphins have the draft capital necessary to trade up to No. 1 overall with the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2020 NFL draft and take Joe Burrow.
But the Bengals will have to want to play ball.
The Dolphins are one of the only teams that seem capable of putting together the historic package necessary to facilitate such a move. That’s what makes a new report from Mike Florio at Pro Football Talk, where he writes that the Dolphins “covet” Burrow and the man behind that is none other than owner Stephen Ross, so interesting.
But again, the Dolphins should’ve lost more games if they coveted a prospect like Burrow.
And to be fair to Miami, it’s mid-January, the Senior Bowl is hardly getting started and Bengals director of player personnel Duke Tobin has made it pretty clear everything is still on the table with the No. 1 pick. There’s plenty of time to get something done.
The idea the Bengals will entertain pretty much anything is hard to imagine, though. Burrow didn’t just have a historic year en route to a national title and Heisman Trophy — he’s an Ohio kid. For a team that operates in the manner these Bengals do, that’s a huge deal because it helps repair the relationship with fans and gets butts back in seats at Paul Brown Stadium.
Either way, the Dolphins remain the team to watch. If noise about interest in Burrow keeps kicking up surrounding them, things could get interesting for the Bengals.
