Dolphins defensive lineman Kendrick Norton suffers amputation after auto accident

Terrible news from Miami, where Dolphins defensive lineman Kendrick Norton was involved in an auto accident early Thursday morning that resulted in the amputation of his left arm. The report was confirmed by Norton’s agent, Malki Kawa.

According to the Miami Herald, Florida Highway Patrol said that Norton’s 2017 Ford F250 was headed west on the Dolphin Expressway at about 1:18 a.m. when it hit a concrete barrier. A friend of Norton’s said that his vehicle was cut off before it flipped, landing on its roof.

Norton was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital with injuries that are reportedly not life-threatening. The Herald reports that Jackson was also bleeding from the back of his head.

“We were made aware this morning of a serious car accident involving Kendrick Norton,” the Dolphins said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Kendrick and his family during this time.”

A Miami alum, Norton was selected in the seventh round of the 2018 draft by the Panthers, and was signed by the Dolphins last December off Carolina’s practice squad. At 6’3″ and 314 pounds, Norton was known during his time at Miami as a defensive tackle who could soak up blocks and bring power to the game. In three years with the Hurricanes, Norton tallied 45 solo tackles, 39 assists, 18 tackles for loss, five sacks, one pass defensed, and one forced fumble.

Norton turned 22 years old on June 7.
