Dolphins cut offensive lineman Will Holden

The deadline for NFL teams to cut down their rosters to 53 active players is this Saturday. Some teams are being proactive in getting a head start — including the Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins announced yesterday that they’ve cut offensive lineman Will Holden, ending a brief stint with the Dolphins that was highlighted by poor play during the team’s preseason contests.

Holden, who came to the Dolphins after playing for the Arizona Cardinals, also spent time with the Indianapolis Colts and New Orleans Saints — but never dressed for either team during the 2018 season. Now? He’ll look to find his fifth NFL team in three years.

Holden’s best hope is to fall into a practice squad and continue to hone his craft.

For the Dolphins, the team’s offensive line continues to shape up. The team’s starting five is all but set in stone — the team will feature Laremy Tunsil, Michael Deiter, Daniel Kilgore, Shaq Calhoun and Jesse Davis as the starting five. Behind them, Chris Reed is shaping up to be the team’s primary back-up on the interior — his efforts are boosted by being able to play both guard and center. At tackle, things are a bit more shaky. 2019 pick Isaiah Prince will have a spot on the 53-man roster, but either Jordan Mills or Jaryd Jones-Smith is a better bet to serve as the Dolphins’ swing tackle in 2019.
