Dolphins cut guard Isaac Asiata

The Miami Dolphins cut guard Isaac Asiata on Thursday, ending a two-year stint with the team after he was selected in the fifth round of the 2017 draft.

Asiata entered the pros with the expectation that he would serve a mauling role in the run game and develop into a starting lineman. But with all of his tenacity and toughness, Asiata never found a way to harness his skills and instead struggled to even get on the football field — Asiata only logged a handful of snaps in two games with Miami.

The release of Asiata — who is still cheap talent on a rookie contract — is a glaring indictment of his future prospects as a pro. Asiata will look for a second chance elsewhere, while the race for the three interior starting spots on the Dolphins offensive line becomes a little clearer with his departure.
