Dolphins cornerback Xavien Howard fined for ejection vs. Cowboys

It’s a good thing the Miami Dolphins extended the contract of cornerback Xavien Howard earlier this year — because Howard is being told to fork over some cash by the NFL’s league offices. The news came late this week that Howard, who was ejected late in Miami’s 31-6 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, was being fined for the altercation.

Howard, according to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport, was fined a total of $10,527 for his part in the scruff at the end of the game.

It was an uncharacteristic outburst from Howard, who was undoubtedly frustrated by the success found against his coverage by Cowboys receiver Amari Cooper. Cooper finished the contest with 6 receptions for 88 yards and 2 touchdowns — an unusually fruitful afternoon for a player drawing Howard so often in coverage.

Howard will look to bounce back today against the Los Angeles Chargers and wide receiver Keenan Allen. If the Dolphins look to keep things close, much of that will come back to Howard’s ability to blanket their best receiving option. Hopefully things go better this week for all involved.
