Dolphins Coaches Playing Catch-Up After Late Hiring

One thing that is for certain based on yesterday’s meeting with the Dolphins assistant coaches? This staff is fully engaged with “the process”.

Dolphins coaches referenced “the process” in some capacity 38 times in yesterday’s media session. Many of the snippets were used to dismiss specific questions about players on the team. The staff was quick to say they’re still learning who their players are and what they can and can’t do.

“We’re very early in that process.”
“It’s all a part of the process.”
“We’re still in that process.”
“There’s definitely a getting-to-know-you process.”
“You have to trust the process…”

With the 2019 NFL Scouting Combine right around the corner and the league’s March 13th opening bell looming shortly afterwards, the Dolphins staff is trying to fast track their evaluations of the current state of the roster.

Several of these coaches, such as Flores, offensive coordinator Chad O’Shea and defensive pass game coordinator/cornerbacks coach Josh Boyer, do have the advantage of having worked within the AFC East, which can certainly help them in their efforts to get familiar with their players.

That was something that O’Shea specifically referenced during his availability.

“Obviously, because we’ve been in the division, we’ve had the opportunity to have have exposure to (Ryan Tannehill)…as it is with our entire roster right now, we’re just trying to do a lot of catch up to try to look at the personnel at all positions.”

The late start may cause Miami to be slow in acting in personnel decisions, but don’t expect it to put any real handcuffs on the team once league festivities start next month.

In short, keep calm and trust the process, Dolphins fans.
