Dolphins claim offensive lineman Will Holden off waivers

The offensive line competition in Miami this summer just got a little more intense — the Dolphins have added offensive lineman Will Holden to the mix as a waiver addition from the Arizona Cardinals. Holden, who was a 5th-round draft selection in the 2017 NFL Draft out of Vanderbilt, has logged a handful of starts over the course of his career with Arizona before bouncing between the Cardinals, the Colts and the Saints in 2018.

Holden does provide some guard/tackle flexibility, meaning he’s another player who can feasibly fill more than one position along the offensive line — a clear priority for the Dolphins this offseason as they continue to look to get the trenches right.

The Dolphins’ offensive line now features positional flexible blockers in Holden (G/T), Michael Deiter (G/C), Chris Reed (G/C), Jesse Davis (G/T) and Michael Dunn (G/T). As the team mixes and matches combinations in hopes of capturing lightning in a bottle, this flexibility will give them a plethora of combinations to administer.

Will any of them stick? Probably not without another round of reinforcements. Is Holden part of the solution? He’s coming from one of the few places in the NFL that claimed a worse offensive line than Miami in 2018 (Arizona) — so it would be wise to approach his addition without too much optimism.
