Dolphins claim former Chiefs CB Javaris Davis off waivers

On Sunday, the Kansas City Chiefs waived former Auburn Tigers cornerback Javaris Davis with a non-football injury designation. On Monday, the Miami Dolphins announced that they were awarded Davis from Kansas City off of the NFL’s waiver wire.

The Chiefs signed Davis as one of 18 undrafted free agents added following the 2020 NFL Draft. He was one of three cornerbacks that the team signed in undrafted free agency in a need to reinforce their depth at the position. Davis’ departure from Kansas City helps the team as they look to trim the offseason roster down to 80 players ahead of the NFL’s August 16 deadline.

Davis (5-8, 183 pounds) recorded 150 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, two sacks, a forced fumble, eight interceptions and 27 passes defended during his career with Auburn.

This marks the first player released by the Chiefs to be claimed off of waivers ahead of the 2020 NFL season. As the reigning Super Bowl champions don’t be surprised when other teams look to add players released by Kansas City.
