Dolphins cancel Saturday’s practice, will prep for trip to Tampa Bay

The Miami Dolphins have cancelled their scheduled practice for today, instead opting to further assess the team’s performance in a 34-27 preseason victory over the Atlanta Falcons — and ready themselves for a trip to Tampa Bay.

The Dolphins are scheduled for two joint practices with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers early next week — a great opportunity for the Dolphins to get a more accurate determination on where they are as a football team relative to some of the competition. Of course, these practices will culminate with Miami playing the Buccaneers in Week 2 of the preseason next Friday night in Tampa Bay.

There will be some compelling storylines to watch — one being the return of quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick to Tampa after he set the franchise’s single season record for passer rating in 2018. The irony here is of course that the Bucs chose Jameis Winston’s upside over Fitzpatrick’s erratic play, and Fitzpatrick now clings to a perceived lead in the Dolphins’ quarterback competition.

The other big return is that of Ndamukong Suh — who signed with the Buccaneers this offseason to replace Gerald McCoy. The Dolphins themselves cut Suh ahead of the 2018 campaign, he’ll most certainly be motivated to make the Dolphins regret that decision.
