Dolphins aren’t ruling out selecting QB in 2019 NFL Draft

According to rumors, the Dolphins are rebuilding with the hopes of drafting a quarterback during the 2020 NFL Draft. But general manager Chris Grier refuted those claims on Monday when speaking to the media.

“You can’t say that, because we haven’t even gone through our process of getting to learn the guys yet,” Grier said. “There’s a lot of good prospects we spent some time with down at the Senior Bowl, and there’s other quarterbacks that weren’t there that people are talking about as well. We’ve just got to go through it and get to know them. We might get through the process and fall in love with a couple guys. Last year, we liked two guys a lot, and they both had good success this year. It could be at that point we may say, ‘We feel this is the guy.”

Although Grier says the Dolphins haven’t ruled out taking a quarterback in the 2019 draft doesn’t mean they will select one in the first round. The Dolphins will need to revamp their defensive as the team will move to a hybrid 3-4 scheme, the same new head coach Brian Flores ran with the Patriots.

So the Dolphins, in a stout defensive draft will likely focus on defensive line help and maybe a rush-end linebacker.

The Dolphins also could use help on their offensive line along with another receiver. But they likely will select a quarterback at some point in the draft.

Don’t be surprised if the Dolphins draft a quarterback somewhere in the third or fourth round. They can see if that player develops and if he does, maybe they are set going forward at the quarterback position. If not, the Dolphins will be in prime position to draft a quarterback in 2020.
