Dolphins' Ajayi again named Offensive Player of the Week

Miami Dolphins running back Jay Ajayi has been piling up yards at a record pace, and the awards are starting to follow.

Ajayi was named AFC Offensive Player of the Week for the second straight week, the NFL announced Wednesday. Ajayi, the 2015 fifth-round pick from Boise State, rushed for a career-best 214 yards and a touchdown on 29 carries in Sunday's 28-25 win over the Buffalo Bills.

He has rushed for 418 yards and three touchdowns the past two games.

Ajayi, who rushed for 204 yards against the Pittsburgh Steelers two weeks ago, is only the fourth player in NFL history to rush for 200 yards in consecutive games, joining O.J. Simpson, Earl Campbell and Ricky Williams.

He leads the league with 6.3 yards per carry.

In two games, the Dolphins' offense has gone from 28th in the NFL in rushing to ninth.

Thanks to the emergence of Ajayi, the Dolphins (3-4) are back in the running for a wild-card berth that would end an eight-year playoff drought _ something that seemed impossible after a 1-4 start.

The Dolphins have a bye this week before hosting the New York Jets on Nov. 6, which concludes an NFL record 44-day homestand.
