Dolphins agree to terms with 7th round pick Chandler Cox

It’s been quite a while since the Miami Dolphins had a true fullback on the roster. But it took no time at all for the Dolphins to lock one in once they drafted him in the 2019 NFL Draft. The first rookie pick to agree to terms with the Dolphins was Washington running back Myles Gaskin last night — Auburn fullback Chandler Cox agreed shortly after Gaskin.

Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald broke both agreements as the Dolphins continue their full court press effort to get all six of their rookies inked ahead of tomorrow’s first day of rookie camp.

Despite the scarcity of true fullbacks in the NFL, Cox’s status as a member of the Dolphins figures to be set in stone, barring injury. This Dolphins regime clearly targeted a player with a niche skillset — those selections don’t come unless there is a clear vision for how to utilize him. Even if it means rostering a player who plays a dying position.

Cox will serve as a bruiser for this Dolphins’ team as they look to embrace physicality — something this team hasn’t done much of in the run game in many years. If he can provide the same blocking skills he showed at Auburn, Cox will be well worth the investment.
