Dolphin Park development plans rejected by Dublin City Council

Proposals to redevelop Dolphin Park have been refused by Dublin City Council today.

Dolphin Park is owned by Templeogue Synge Street, who submitted proposals for new facilities at the ground which would include floodlights, a new training all-weather pitch, a new gym, dressing rooms, new meeting rooms and modest catering facilities.

But the plans also involve the construction of 153 apartments, seven townhouses and one detached house by Belgrove Homes.

Under the proposals, 28% of Dolphin Park would be put under concrete, which was objected to heavily by Kevin's Hurling and Camogie Club, who have used the Crumlin facility for around 40 years .

The Love Dolphin Park campaign was started in order to "mobilise" residents and club members against the development, and they have taken a massive step forward today with the Council's verdict.

"Dublin City Council has refused permission for planning application  2724/19  relating to the proposed development at Dolphin Park," the Love Dolphin Park campaign said in a statement.

"Love Dolphin Park welcomes this decision, prioritising as it does the need to preserve green space and playing facilities for use by sports clubs, local schools, and the broader community, and the maintenance of a safe environment for local residents, children, road-users, and the general public.

"We would like to thank you all for the fantastic support provided for our campaign to date. We will keep you posted on developments on our website here and on our social media feeds."
