Dolly Parton's down-to-earth hubby Carl by her side for 55 years but hates limelight

Dolly Parton recently revealed a photograph of her and her husband Carl Dean that had never been seen publicly before.

The pair have been married for 55 years, but the mysterious Carl is rarely pictured.

The star's secret husband is reportedly supportive of her career, but hates celebrity culture.

The picture posted on Dolly's Twitter shows the couple at the start of their marriage.

Dolly captioned the picture: "Find you a partner who will support you like my Carl Dean does."

Carl has been with Dolly through her journey to fame, taking on work for an asphalt company.

The 75-year-old's singer reportedly has a huge net worth of around £476 million, which the couple no doubt enjoy together.

How did Dolly Parton and Carl Dean meet?

The two met outside the Wishy Washy laundromat in Nashville in 1964 when Dolly was 18 on the first day she was in the city famed for its country music heritage.

They married in 1966 when Dolly was 20 and Carl 23. It was the same year Dolly began to have success with her singing and her record label suggested she avoid marrying in case it got in the way of her career.

Ignoring the advice, the two were promptly married in a ceremony with only Parton's mother in attendance, as well as the preacher and his wife.

As his wife's career began to take off, Dean began to avoid the trappings of her fame.

After the two attended a an awards dinner, he asked if he could avoid such events in the future.

Parton recalled: "After the dinner, Carl turned to me and said, 'Dolly, I want you to have everything you want, and I'm happy for you, but don't you ever ask me to go to another one of them dang things again!'""

Dolly once said that the song 'Jolene' was written about a woman Carl was spending time with at the bank.

Parton has also since said that Jolene is not actually about anyone at a bank, but instead revealed that Jolene was a fan she met at a show, whom she promised to write a song about.
