Dolly Parton has become the latest artist to speak out against North Carolina’s controversial HB2 bill. The so-called “bathroom bill”, which makes it illegal for transgender people to use restrooms not associated with the gender on their birth certificates and blocks local governments from creating protections for LGBT people, has been denounced by several musicians including Bruce Springsteen and Animal Collective.

“I think everybody should be treated with respect” said Parton in a video statement to CNN. “I don’t judge people. I try not to get too caught up in all the controversy of things. I hope that everybody gets a chance to be who and what they are.”

“I just know if I have to pee I’m gonna pee. I don’t care where it’s gonna be.”

Despite opposing the bill, Parton did play North Carolina earlier this month, beginning her Pure & Simple tour there. This was in contrast to Springsteen, Ringo Starr and Maroon 5, who all cancelled shows in the state.

Parton’s tour of 60 cities is set to continue until November.
