Doireann Garrihy says she doesn’t ask her subjects' permission before impersonating them

RTE presenter Doireann Garrihy has revealed that she doesn’t ask her subject’s permission before impersonating them on her sketch series The Doireann Project.

During an Instagram Ask Me Anything on Thursday night, a follower asked: “Do u ask influencers permission before doing impressions on Doireann project?”

Doireann, reclining in bed in stripy pyjamas, candidly replied: “Negative, I do not do that. Ah where’s the craic in that come on!”

The third season of the show recently landed on the RTÉ Player and sees the 29-year-old impersonate the likes of Maura alongside Suzanne Jackson, Pippa O’Connor, and Roz Purcell.

During the chat, which was broadcast on her Insta stories she was also asked “Who’s your favourite person to perform as?” and she revealed: “This season probably Maura Higgins because it was a new character, and the costumes and hair and makeup was just so much fun.”

Ironically in an interview last year the star expressed concern for Maura’s mental health post Love Island, saying: “I think it is a massive risk to do that Love Island. Greg was one of the lucky ones who came out if it well, but that is because he stayed in Ireland.

"And yes, Maura was flying it on Dancing On Ice. But I kind of feel like we haven't seen the real Maura that we saw in the villa.

"I just feel like something is not right and I just hope that she is not totally overwhelmed by fame and as a result is afraid to be totally herself.”

Doireann filmed the most of the show while recovering from a dislocated knee.

In March she shared with fans on Instagram that she had been wrapping up filming when she leant off to the side of her chair to pick her script off the ground when her knee popped out of place.

This meant she had a slight limp in some of the sketches and it didn’t go unnoticed by fans, with one saying: “Loved the new season and I was like ‘the poor pet’ when you see the little limp on Roz (Purcell) on the beach” which led Doireann to reveal.

“First day back filming and the limp is so obvious and then Roz broke her leg – I swear I didn’t put a spell on her.”

In a case of life imitating art, former Miss Universe Ireland Roz broke her leg while playing tennis last month.
